I teach English to adults in businesses and it is quite a change from children. I don't have all the boundaries being tested and attitude being given. The students are motivated to learn and for the most part willing to work. I do find that just like kids they often don't do the homework though.

Every day I travel to a different location in and around the city of Paris, two days are in the center of Paris and three days are in the suburbs. While I was living in the suburbs myself, it was a really long journey for me with the minimum being one hour each direction and the maximum being one and a half hours. I finally gave into the Sudoku craze as it really helps to pass the time.

The people in the office of the company that I work for are super nice. Every time I go in there is a warm welcome from all. The office is in an old Parisian apartment of large proportions and beautiful woodwork. The owner actually lives there in some of the rooms and she has two cats. One of the cats is a scaredy cat and the other loves to get a nice short rub.

Some of the businesses I work in are super high security and therefore everytime I go in I must trade my passport for a security pass. One of the businesses is so secure that even with my pass I can only access the elevator and have to be with one of my students to get through the doors onto the actual floor. On that day, I have a lunch break and have to wait at the door for someone to come through in order to get out of the building or back in. I understand why the security but it is a pain in the you know what. I also feel like such a dork standing there at the glass door begging for someone to let me through. One time in fact, a guy opened the door with his pass card and then started to question me as to whether I had the right to be there or not. Fortunately I had the key to the room in my hand and showed it to him while explaining that I was the teacher. He let it go. But for a moment there I was a little concerned.

For those of you who are or have been teachers, this will make you choke. My largest class size is 7. I have six classes that are just one student each for an hour and a half.

Now that I am working, I have a social security number and can finally get into the health system. But after 3 months of working, I still haven't received my card so that means that I will have to make a trip to the social security office. This I dread after the stories I have heard about the French functionnaires ( goverment workers). I will let you know how that turns out.
